I am so honored to have my series of images “Merrik-Surfside” selected as winners to be published in Photobook Cali. Wow. So many beautiful photographs of California and it’s people were chosen. I am in love with all the other photographer’s work and I am still a bit in shock to see my work alongside all these other fantastic photographs. Oh man. I am so proud of my little guy lately. Merrik has seriously stepped up as best big brother, awesome student, passionate surfer and all around sweet kid lately.

Today Merrik begged and begged until I gave in to take him surfing. It was warmer than it has been but still the air was a chilly 56º and the ocean 57º. There wasnt’ much wind but just the thought of being in the water gave me the chills. But, he donned his wetsuit, booties and plunged right in. He spent an hour catching waves in the chilly surf. We stayed until the sun set into the blue-green water and cast golden halos on each wave crest. It was a perfect evening with my nearly perfect kid.

So I’ve been trying to deconstruct “the etsy” for awhile now and figure out where it fits in with me and my current life. I tried to do the ‘vintage‘ etsy and my old and over it photos etsy collection but neither worked for me. People loved the vintage luggage labels I had up but when someone complained that they weren’t authentic (what the heck do I know except that they had been stored in an old cigar box by my grandfather for 50 years!) I quit selling them. I also want to find out more about reproduction rights on them and my poster collection so I can re-purpose their beautiful designs someday into cards or other fun stuff.

So for the time being I am taking some of my captures from photo sessions, play date sessions and personal moments in my every day life and putting them out there for the world to see and absorb. For me it’s about the process. Every time I show my images I grow and learn and discover new ways of seeing my work. So here are a few of the new images that are available as prints in my etsy shop and hopefully soon to be created into little panel display prints as well.

These images are the perfect expression of process. They were developed the way I remember the day, the way I felt that day, and not the way my camera recorded it no matter what my settings were.
